About
The 2008 U.S. presidential election woke many of us up to the uncomfortable fact that sexism and misogyny are alive and well in the world. A Senator and a Governor were trashed on everything from their cleavage to their makeup. More ink was wasted on what they wore than the policies they were offering.
Such trivializing of women must be ended. There need to be consequences for bashing women and right now, there are none. Major party figures can remain silent because they know it won’t cost them votes. The mainstream media perpetuates these ugly practices, and their sponsors keep paying for ads.
Feminism has become complacent. But now we see that there is more need today than ever for women to stand up for each other, for our daughters and granddaughters, and say no more. Enough. We demand to be treated as humans. Comments about our bodies are off limit and there will be a price to pay for making them.
Join us in ending sexism by raising up your sisters and standing together. Women are the majority on this planet, yet we are vastly underrepresented in every area of life. It won’t end until we unite to create a world where women are judged on their merits, not their hairstyles. When women are debated about their ideas, not their wardrobe. Where the idea that a journalist would comment on a woman’s cleavage would be beyond imagining…
This forum is for us to talk together. Share ideas. Open ourselves to accepting the many ways of being women, of being feminist – pro-woman. Tell us about your way. You are welcome here!
Posters must be women. We ask that those who write or comment speak about their own experiences and refrain from writing in judgement of other women’s experiences. Leave your partisan politics at the door, or stay out. Have strong opinions and share them, then respect those who agree as well as those who disagree. There is room here for all women.
